The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 govern the installation and maintenance of a plumbing system connected to a public water supply.
They are are in place to protect the public’s health and promote efficient, sensible use of a water supply.
The aim is to protect the public and the water supply from the following:
- Waste
- Contamination
- Misuse
- Erroneous Measurement
- Undue Consumption
The regulations place a legal duty on the installers and maintainers of a water supply but also on the consumer of the water. They are not however applicable to water abstracted from a private source.
