Through this research, various water companies including South East Water wanted to learn more about garden water usage, with an emphasis on insights gathered during warm periods of weather.
We set out to explore the impact of hot weather on garden water usage, identifying the factors that influence behaviour change regarding water consumption. We aim to uncover both the motivators and obstacles to adopting water-saving practices. The insights gained will assist water companies in creating effective tools, devices, and communication strategies to encourage customers to adopt more sustainable water usage habits.
The research also looks to assess customers' understanding of Temporary Use Bans (TUBs) and drought, evaluate the impact of TUBs on individuals both within and outside affected regions, and examine how extreme weather influences garden water usage and overall gardening behaviour.
