Key facts

Location: Smarden Bell Road, Pluckley

Work: Installing 640 metres of new water main

Starts: Monday 22 September

Duration: Approx. 10 weeks

Investment: £400,000

We’re making the water supply network in Pluckley more reliable by replacing around 640 metres of an ageing, burst-prone main in Smarden Bell Road.

We’ll be working in two phases to minimise disruption to the public:

  • Phase one: just west of Frith Court Farm to the junction with Mundy Bois Road
  • Phase two: from the junction with Mundy Bois Road to the junction with Rose Farm Road and The Pinnock

When will work start and how long will it take?

We’re planning to start this project on Monday 22 September.

We expect the work to take around ten weeks, but our team will work quickly to complete the project sooner if possible.

Will the road be closed?

We’ll need to close Smarden Bell Road between the junctions with The Pinnock/Rose Farm Road and Greenhill Lane while we carry out this vital work. This is to make sure we can keep the public and our team safe.

We know road closures can be disruptive and we’ll do our best to work as quickly as possible to get our work completed and the road reopened.

A diversion route, agreed with Kent Highways, will be signposted for the duration and will be published on this webpage.

FAQs

We do all we can to minimise disruption to the community when laying new water mains and always look to install pipes in locations which will cause the least disruption, such as grass verges and when in a road, as close to the verge as possible.

In the case of Smarden Bell Road, we’ll be working in two phases to minimise disruption to the public:

  • Phase one: just west of Frith Court Farm to the junction with Mundy Bois Road
  • Phase two: from the junction with Mundy Bois Road to the junction with Rose Farm Road and The Pinnock

As with all our roadworks, we always maintain access for emergency services. Emergency services are briefed well in advance. Our team will work as quickly as possible to make working areas safe for emergency vehicles to cross.

Bin collections and postal deliveries will still be able to access properties for the duration of our work. We advise of these services of our works and it is up to these providers to ensure that their services can continue during our works. Our on-site team will work with providers.

As the work will require connections to the existing network, there will be a short interruption in supply. We will notify you well in advance when this is due to happen if you are impacted by a loss of supply.
