We’re carrying out work at our drinking water storage reservoir in Charing to improve fresh drinking water quality and supply in Charing.

Stage one

The first stage of this project is underway, with groundworks being carried out before we build a new corrugated steel storage tank alongside the existing tank.

Stage two

Once the new temporary tank is built, this will take over the job of providing fresh drinking water for the Charing area while we take the current one out of service for essential maintenance.

Stage three

Once work has been completed on the existing tank, the temporary steel tank will be taken apart and removed from the site, to be reassembled at another site for a similar purpose.

Project timeline

  1. Ground work for this has already started.
  2. Construction of the tank is due to begin in December.
  3. We expect the work to take around a month to complete.
  4. Once the new tank is operational, it will take over from the existing tank for around three months, depending on progress.
  5. Once work on the existing storage reservoir has finished, the temporary tank will be disassembled and removed from site. This should take around a month.
  6. We’ll restore the landscaping once the tank has been removed.

FAQs

We need to carry out essential maintenance on our existing drinking water storage tank in Charing Hill. This tank holds fresh drinking water before it heads to our customers’ taps. In order to do this without interrupting supply, we’re building a temporary steel tank which can take over while we take the existing tank out of service and carry out maintenance.

Groundwork has already started and the entire project, including the disassembly and removal of the temporary tank will take around six months to complete.

We’re not anticipating the need for any road closures, as all work will be contained within our existing site on Charing Hill.

There should be no interruption to your water supply. We will not be taking the existing storage tank out of service until the temporary tank is on site and operational.
