Basingstoke residents invited to meet the South East Water project team

29th October 2021

Plans to install 600 metres of new water main in Basingstoke, Hampshire, will be at the centre of a virtual information session in December.

South East Water will install the pipe along Winchester Road, between Kempshott Roundabout and Hatch Warren Roundabout.

The vital, £485,000 project, which must begin in January 2022 in order to continue maintaining tap water supplies to the area, will require the use of temporary traffic lights.

Customers are invited to attend a virtual information session, hosted via Zoom, on 8 December between 6pm and 8pm to speak to South East Water about the project.

Jeremy Dufour, Project Manager, said: “We know this is a busy area for traffic given the number of businesses and homes nearby.

“We’ll be working very closely with all the local businesses to minimise disruption to them and of course to our customers too.

“I am sure residents will be concerned about the number of other utility projects happening in the area but, following discussion with the local highways authority, we have been clear that we must carry out this project in order to continue pumping top-quality drinking water to the area.”

Work will begin in early January 2022 and will take approximately 16 weeks to complete.

Temporary traffic lights will be in operation throughout the project and will move along the road as the pipe is carefully installed.

Jeremy continued: “We understand this project may cause some concern amongst the community so we are really keen for as many customers as possible to join us on 8 December.

“This will give us a chance to run through the scheme in more detail and answer any questions or concerns you may have.”
