Work to strengthen the water network in Farnham will enter the final phase next week with the temporary closure of Runwick Lane and a lane closure on the A31 Alton Road.
More than £1 million is being invested by South East Water to lay a new two-kilometre-long water main in the Farnham area, with work already completed in West Street earlier this year.
The second phase of the project in private land is now nearing completion and work is set to start in Runwick Lane from Tuesday (1 August), with the road being closed temporarily for around three weeks from the junction with the A31 Alton Road.
A lane closure will also be put in place overnight on Monday (31 July) on the A31 as the drinking water supplier works to cross the Farnham-bound lane.
Jeremy Dufour, Project Manager for South East Water, said: “We know this is a busy area for traffic and road closures are always a last resort, but we need to close Runwick Lane and a lane on the A31 for the safety of motorists and our workforce.
“We are very sorry for any disruption this may cause and we will be working closely with residents and businesses to minimise the impact as much as possible.
“This project is plays a vital part is reducing the risk of supply interruptions as the community grows ensuring residents and businesses receive a steady supply of top-quality drinking water now and into the future.”
As part of the work on the A31, there will also be a night connection to the existing water main between midnight on Thursday, 10 August and 3am on Friday, 11 August.
This project forms part of South East Water’s £489 million investment into improving its water network between 2020 and 2025.
