Major water main upgrade between Fleet and Odiham set to begin
A vital, £10 million pipe upgrade to protect drinking water supplies against predicted population growth is set to begin next week.
South East Water needs to install 12 kilometres of water main between Fleet and Odiham, Hampshire, to allow the company to draw in large volumes of water from other areas of its vast network of pipes to keep taps flowing.
Work on the project is due to begin on Monday, June 14, in Poland Lane, Hook.
Matthew Cooper, South East Water Project Manager, said: “We’re really excited to start this project following a significant planning and consultation process with both the local community and our key stakeholders in the area.
“The route we have identified is the fastest, safest and least disruptive for all concerned. We know road closures and traffic lights can cause inconvenience, we firmly believe this project will be of long-term benefit for our customers.”
The company anticipates work within Poland Lane will be complete by June 25. South East Water will then start working in Odiham Road, Hook, and Cove Road, Fleet, simultaneously on June 28.
Meanwhile, pipe installation in Bagwell Lane South, Hook, is due to begin on July 1.
