Pluckley community invited to hear more about water main improvements in the village

Residents of Pluckley, Kent, are being invited to a special meeting to hear more about a water company’s plans to invest £700,000 in the local drinking water network.

South East Water is set to replace 1.2 kilometres of aging, burst-prone pipe in Smarden Road, which regularly causes disruption to customers.

The project, which will take approximately eight months to complete, is to begin on 8 November.

As a safety precaution, Smarden Road will be closed to passing traffic while the works are ongoing.

Customers are being invited to an online public information session on 13 October to find out more about the vital project.

Jeremy Dufour, Project Manager, said: “This particular section of main, between Swan Lane and Smarden Bell Road, burst 18 times in the last five years which we know has been a big frustration to the local community.

“We know this is a busy area for passing traffic and there are lots of homes and businesses which may be disrupted by the road closure.

“Road closures are always a last resort but are vital to ensure everyone can remain safe while we’re installing the new pipe.

“I would urge everyone to join us on 13 October so we can discuss the project in more detail with you.”

Smarden Road will be closed in phases and access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times.
