Privett water network set for significant upgrade

6th October 2025

South East Water will soon be replacing around 1.2 kilometres of water mains to upgrade the water network in Filmorehill Lane, Privett.

We will start work on Monday, 20 October, with the project expected to take around four months to complete.

South East Water Project Manager, Jeremy Dufour, said: “This is an important project for us to upgrade our network.

“The water pipes in this area have burst eight times in the last five years, which has meant low pressure and at times, no water for our customers.

“This is not acceptable to us and we’re sorry to our customers who have been affected by this. We’re always working to reduce the number of leaks and bursts and by carrying out this work now, we will be strengthening our network and increasing resilience.

“As with any work, we know there may be some disruption for residents and businesses locally and we apologise for this, but please be assured we will work as quickly and safely as possible to try to finish the project sooner and minimise disruption.

“Work will take place during normal working hours, but there may also be some activity at evenings and weekends.”

As a safety precaution for pedestrians, motorists and the workforce, Filmorehill Lane will be closed in sections, with two diversion routes in place.

There will be one to the north of Filmorehill Lane, which will be via the A32 Gosport Road and Fawley Lane.

A diversion will also be in place to the south of Filmorehill Lane, via Stocks Lane, the A272 (Winchester Road/Petersfield Road) and the A32 Gosport Road.
