Residents invited to meet South East Water’s project team

20th October 2021

Next steps for a £10 million water pipe project between Fleet and Odiham, Hampshire, which includes the closure of a footpath in Elvetham Heath, are to be discussed with local residents.

A public information session about the work to install almost 12 kilometres of pipe, has been organised by South East Water, for 10 November at the Key Centre, The Key, Fleet, between 7pm and 9pm.

Having started the project in June, its workforce will next move into the Elvetham Heath area in May 2022, although the company will be visible in the area in December to carry out some vegetation clearance work.

Once work begins in Elvetham Heath, the Elvetham Way footpath will be closed for several months to allow South East Water to safely install new pipe.

The company is currently working in Cove Road and Bagwell Lane and once this is complete it will be moving into Fleet Road, Fleet and The Hurst, Winchfield. Along with people living in Elvetham Heath, it is hoped that residents living in these additional areas will also attend the meeting to hear how this work will affect them.

Matthew Cooper, South East Water Project Manager, said: “We know this phase of the project will cause some disruption to the local residents as it is well used, but the only way we can ensure the safety of the public and our workforce is to close it for the duration of the work.

“Understandably, this closure may cause some concern so we’re welcoming residents to come and meet us and ask any questions at the Key Centre, The Ky, Fleet, between 7pm and 9pm on 10 November.

“We hope to see many of you there and look forward to putting your minds at ease about the project.”

Work is making good progress and more than two kilometres of new water main has been installed so far.”

The company is currently working in Cove Road, Fleet and Bagwell Lane, Odiham, with road closures in place in both areas.

Matthew continued: “I am really pleased with the progress our team has made and once our work in Cove Road and Bagwell Lane completes we’ll be moving into Fleet Road, Fleet and The Hurst, Winchfield.

“I am sure residents in these areas may also have questions so if you are able to, please join us at the Key Centre next month and we’ll gladly discuss any ongoing or future work.”
