Snodland Community Cricket Club benefits as Community Chest spills its gold
Snodland Community Cricket Children’s Club is completely bowled over for the second year in a row thanks to receiving an additional £2,000 from South East Water’s Community Chest.
Last year the Club applied for money to get the Little Dragons Cricket Club up and running and the recent donation has been used to pay for and put-up a practice net structure alongside its practice wicket to benefit the youth and senior members at the club.
This is one of 10 good causes across the south east which has shared a £20,000 bounty chosen by the fresh water supplier’s volunteer judging panel from different parts of the business.
Mike Watts, the club’s chairman said: “As a smallish club with big ideas to enhance the community, a donation like this will go a very long way especially as we are in a town with two primary schools, and we are trying to make our sport as popular as possible.
“We run a Saturday and Sunday seniors side, with training at the ground on Tuesday evenings and our 'Little Dragons' youth setup on a Thursday evening. If anyone is interested in getting back into the game or looking to start out we would be excited to have you along.”
Rob Crumbie, Head of Communications, South East Water, on visiting the club said: “As our company’s headquarters are in Snodland and a number of our colleagues live in the village, we know how important it is to encourage young community projects such as this one that run activities for children.
“It was brilliant to see the nets in action and hopefully we will see a new generation of cricketers in Snodland thanks to all the effort being put into the Snodland Community Cricket Club and the 'Little Dragons'.”
