South East Water to invest £280,000 in new water pipe in Hellingly

A water company is to lay a new £280,000 one kilometre long pipeline in Grove Hill, Hellingly improving the reliability of tap water supplies in the area.

The current section of water main has burst 13 times in the last five years and by replacing the old pipe South East Water will increase the resilience of the local network, securing top-quality drinking water supplies to local residents for many years to come.

Work begins on 20 September and is expected to take approximately 13 weeks to complete.

To ensure the safety of the public and the teams working on site Grove Hill will be closed between Knightsbridge Farm and Cinderford Lane for the duration of the work.

The diversion route has been agreed with East Sussex Highways.

Jeremy Dufour, Project Manager for South East Water said: “This investment is crucial to maintain the drinking water supplies in Hellingly.

“Bursts and repairs on this section of pipe can be disruptive to both the local community through interrupted drinking water supplies and to road users while repairs are made, by replacing this new section of main we hope to reduce the frequency of both.

“We know that roadworks can be disruptive and I’d like to thank the local community in advance for their patience and understanding while we carry out this project.”

This work forms part of the company’s £433 million investment programme between 2020 and 2025.
