Water network upgrade in East Meon, Hampshire

A water company is set to invest £290,000 on replacing a burst-prone, 1.5 kilometre stretch of pipe in East Meon, Hampshire.

The existing water main in Clanfield Road has come to the end of its working life and can cause supply interruptions to South East Water customers.

It is set to be replaced by brand-new pipe as part of a four-month project, starting in November.

Jeremy Dufour, South East Water Project Manager, said: “We know the existing pipe in Clanfield Road is prone to bursting.

“This vital project will ensure we can provide a steady supply of top quality drinking water to the local community.”

Work is set to begin on 1 November 2021 and the project will run until early March 2022.

To protect motorists, pedestrians and the company’s workforce, Clanfield Road will be closed to passing traffic while work is ongoing.

Jeremy continued: “We know road closures can be disruptive and we are really sorry for any inconvenience caused.

“A clearly-signed diversion route will be in place as agreed by the local Highways authority.”

Access to homes and businesses will always be maintained.

South East Water may need to return to carry out some additional work in April and will write to residents nearer the time.
