A road closure in Alton has reopened early after our project to boost the water supply network finished four weeks ahead of schedule.
South East Water invested £166,000 to install 180 metres of new pipeline along Chawton Park Road to help support and strengthen the network as the population increases in the area.
Work started on April 22 with a road closure along a small section of Chawton Park Road and a diversion in place via the A31.
The project was expected to last eight weeks until mid-June, but the new pipeline has been brought into service early and the road closure has been lifted.
South East Water Project Manager Jeremy Dufour said: “This was an important project for us to improve resilience in the water network for both our existing and future customers, reducing the risk of low pressures as the population grows in Alton.
“We know road closures cause disruption for residents and businesses locally and we have worked hard to finish the project as safely and as quickly as possible to minimise the impact.
“We would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we carried out this vital work.”
The project is part of South East Water’s commitment to invest £489 million to improve the water supply infrastructure between 2020 and 2025.
