The way that you will be billed will depend whether your home has a water meter or not.

You can find out if you are a metered or non-metered customer by checking the second page of your paper bill, or logging into your online My Account.

If you have a water meter

If you have a water meter installed in your home, we will read it every six months, and send your bill shortly after. You'll only be billed for the drinking water that you use, plus a small standing charge. This charge is based on where you live, and is calculated by how much it costs to abstract water from the area, and for us to read and maintain your water meter.

If you are a metered customer, your bill will look like this:

If you don't have a water meter

If you don't have a water meter, you'll be charged on Assessed Charges. This means an annual sum based on the number of bedrooms your property has.

If you are an Assessed Charges customer, you can either pay in full when you receive your annual bill (usually in March), or by monthly payments. If you chose to pay your bill monthly, we will divide it by 12 instalments (April - March).

If you move into your property part way through the year, your bill will be divided across the number of months of the year remaining. For example, if you move into your property in August, we will take seven monthly payments from September to March.

Who is your waste water service provider?

Although we only supply your clean drinking water and do not remove the waste water from your property, we do bill on behalf of other companies including Thames Water and Southern Water, to make things as easy as possible for you.

You will see the charges for the removal of your waste water on page two of your bill. Despite billing on their behalf, we are totally separate companies operationally. Your waste water provider decides on how much you are charged to remove, clean and treat your waste water.

Your waste water service provider's logo will be printed on your bill, or you can find out who your waste water service provider is by using the Water UK website, here(opens in a new tab).

Why has your water bill gone up?

From 1 April 2025, the amount you’ll pay for water will go up. We’re sorry, we know a price rise is never welcome, especially alongside other cost of living increases. However, to make sure we continue to invest in making your drinking water supply more reliable by reducing leaks and improving our network, we need to increase investment and therefore prices.

You will have received additional pages in your latest bill with lots of information on why we're increasing prices for drinking water, how your money is spent and examples of where we're investing and improving our network.

You can also read more about how your money is spent and talk to us about ways we can help you with your bill here(opens in a new tab).
